This Spooky Spiderweb Buffalo Chicken Dip is a creamy, spicy, and cheesy Halloween appetizer that looks like it crawled out of a haunted kitchen but tastes like a party. It’s quick, easy, and guaranteed to disappear first at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup cooked shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken works perfectly)
  • ½ cup buffalo wing sauce (preferably Frank’s RedHot Original)
  • ½ cup ranch dressing (or blue cheese dressing)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives, for spider decoration (optional)
  • For the spiderweb design: 2 tablespoons sour cream or cream cheese thinned with 1 teaspoon milk or water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take cream cheese out of the fridge to soften for 15-20 minutes.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of buffalo sauce and beat again until combined.
  3. Add shredded chicken, remaining buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, sour cream, garlic powder, and onion powder to the cream cheese mixture. Stir until well combined.
  4. Fold in ¾ cup of mozzarella cheese and all of the cheddar cheese. Reserve the remaining ¼ cup mozzarella for the top.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly into an 8×8 inch baking dish. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Sprinkle the reserved mozzarella cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until hot and bubbly around the edges and the top is lightly golden. Optionally, broil for 1-2 minutes for extra browning.
  8. While the dip bakes, prepare the spiderweb design: In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of sour cream with 1 teaspoon of milk or water until thin enough to pipe but not runny. Transfer to a piping bag or zip-top bag.
  9. Once the dip comes out of the oven, let it cool for 5 minutes before piping the spiderweb.
  10. Pipe the spiderweb design: Starting from the center, pipe a small circle. Then pipe concentric circles around it, spacing them about an inch apart. Use a toothpick or knife to drag lines from the center outward through all the circles, creating the web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  11. Place olive ‘spiders’ on the web (optional): Use whole black olives for the body and slice a few olives into thin strips for the legs. Arrange them crawling across the web.

Notes

Don’t overbake the dip; it will continue to cook slightly after removal. Let cream cheese come to room temperature to avoid lumps. Rotisserie chicken is best for flavor and moisture. For the spiderweb, let the dip cool 5-10 minutes before piping to prevent the sour cream from melting. The dip can be assembled a day ahead (without spiderweb) and refrigerated; add 5 minutes to bake time if cold.
