A quick and easy Halloween cocktail made with vodka, fresh orange juice, and peach syrup, garnished with black sanding sugar for a spooky yet delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz vodka (recommended: Tito’s or Absolut)
  • 3 oz fresh orange juice (about half a large orange)
  • 2 oz peach nectar or syrup (from canned peaches in heavy syrup)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • Orange food coloring (optional, for vibrant color)
  • Black sanding sugar (for rimming the glass)
  • Fresh peach slice (for garnish)
  • Star anise or cinnamon stick (for garnish)
  • Ice cubes (preferably large cubes)

Instructions

  1. Prep your glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip it into a small plate of black sanding sugar. Set aside to dry.
  2. Juice your citrus: Squeeze enough fresh oranges to get 3 oz of juice per drink. Squeeze lime for 1 oz of fresh lime juice. Strain out seeds or large pulp.
  3. Prepare the peach component: Open a can of peaches in heavy syrup and drain the syrup into a small bowl. Reserve peach slices for garnish. Measure 2 oz of syrup per drink.
  4. Combine in the shaker: Add vodka, fresh orange juice, peach syrup, lime juice, and simple syrup (if using) to a cocktail shaker. Fill halfway with ice cubes.
  5. Shake: Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels cold to the touch.
  6. Strain and pour: Fill the rimmed glass with fresh ice cubes, then strain the cocktail into the glass, leaving about half an inch of space at the top.
  7. Add spooky touch: If desired, add a tiny drop of orange food coloring and stir gently.
  8. Garnish and serve: Add a fresh peach slice to the rim and tuck a star anise or cinnamon stick into the drink. Serve immediately.

Notes

For batch-making, multiply ingredients by number of guests and mix everything (except ice) in a large pitcher. Keep refrigerated until serving, then pour over ice and garnish individually. For a mocktail, omit vodka and increase peach nectar to 3 oz, adding a splash of club soda or ginger beer. For a warm version, gently heat the mixture (without ice) in a saucepan over low heat for 3-4 minutes, without boiling.
