A creamy, festive dessert dip that tastes like Christmas morning in a bowl. Made with simple ingredients and ready in just 15 minutes, it’s perfect for holiday parties and last-minute gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup yellow cake mix, dry
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 1/4 cup Christmas sprinkles
  • 1 star-shaped candy or cookie
  • Mini chocolate chips or M&M’s (for ornaments)
  • Pretzel sticks (for serving)
  • Graham crackers (for serving)
  • Apple slices (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese and butter by leaving them out for 30 minutes or microwaving cream cheese for 10 seconds on low.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and fluffy. Scrape down the sides halfway through.
  3. Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1/4 cup at a time, mixing on low speed. Once incorporated, increase speed to medium and beat for another minute until thick and creamy.
  4. Add the dry cake mix and vanilla extract. Mix on low until just combined, leaving some small bits of cake mix for texture.
  5. Add the milk and mix on low until the dip reaches a spreadable consistency. Add more milk if too thick, or more powdered sugar if too thin.
  6. Add green food coloring a few drops at a time, mixing until you achieve the desired shade of green.
  7. Transfer the dip to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped. Pipe onto a serving platter in a tree shape, starting with a wide base and tapering upward. Alternatively, spoon and shape with a spatula.
  8. While the dip is still soft, press mini chocolate chips or M&M’s onto the tree as ornaments. Sprinkle Christmas sprinkles all over. Place the star candy at the top.
  9. Serve immediately with pretzel sticks, graham crackers, and apple slices arranged around the tree.

Notes

For best results, ensure cream cheese is truly softened (not cold or melted). Gel food coloring gives a more vibrant green without altering consistency. The dip can be made a day ahead: prepare the base without coloring and decorations, refrigerate, then bring to room temperature for 15 minutes before adding color and decorating. If the dip becomes too soft while shaping, refrigerate the bowl for 5 minutes.
