Healthy Fruit Ghost Skewers: 5 Easy Halloween Treats for Kids

healthy fruit ghost skewers - featured image

A fun, healthy, and spooky Halloween treat for kids made with bananas, strawberries, and marshmallows. These easy-to-assemble fruit skewers look like ghosts and are perfect for parties or snacks.

Ingredients

  • Large bananas (ripe but firm)
  • Fresh strawberries (bright red and firm)
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Wooden toothpicks or bamboo skewers
  • Lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
  • Mini chocolate chips or raisins (for eyes)
  • Yogurt or honey (optional, as glue for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Wash strawberries thoroughly under cold water and pat them completely dry with a paper towel.
  2. Peel bananas and cut each in half crosswise to create 2-3 inch long pieces for the ghost body.
  3. If using wooden toothpicks, soak them in water for 10 minutes to prevent splintering.
  4. Insert a skewer into the bottom of a banana half, pushing it halfway through so it protrudes from the top.
  5. Push a mini marshmallow onto the top of the skewer to serve as the ghost’s head.
  6. Cut a strawberry in half lengthwise to create thin strips. Skewer one strip on each side of the banana, just below the marshmallow, to create wings.
  7. Use a tiny dab of yogurt or honey to attach two mini chocolate chips or raisins to the marshmallow for eyes.
  8. Place finished skewers on a plate and chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Bananas oxidize quickly; work efficiently and consider spraying cut bananas with lemon juice if prepping ahead. Ensure strawberries are completely dry so toppings stick. For toddlers, use blunt toothpicks or cut skewers to short lengths for safety. Best served within 2 hours of assembly.
